- Las Vegas, NV – With a 1-2 start in the UFC, Jason Witt is just enjoying the ride.
After going on a four-fight win streak outside of the UFC, “The Vanilla Gorilla” made his UFC debut last June but lost to Takashi Sato via TKO. He would rebound four months later, submitting Cole Williams via arm-triangle choke, ending 2020 on a high note. At UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Muhammad in March, his momentum was halted only 16 seconds into his fight with Matthew Semelsberger.
Embarrassed by his last loss, he has moved past it and enjoying his ride in the UFC as it took him a while to get the biggest fight promotion, finally.
“The UFC has been fantastic. You know, I made that debut on 48 hours’ notice, and that was one of the most stressful, enjoyable trips I’ve had- win, lose, or draw that opened the door for me. Obviously, getting the win was money in the bank, but we don’t have to talk about the last fight; we’ll just put that away. It’s been enjoyable. I’ve known for a long that time that I belong here; this is where I was supposed to be at, so I’m just enjoying the ride, man,” Witt told reporters during media day on Thursday.
Witt opens the main card against Bryan Barberena in what should be a very entertaining fight, and he knows it.
“This fight has Fight of the Night written all over it, you put us two together, and I’m throwing for the f*cking fences anyways, and I know he does too, and he ain’t going away,” Witt said.
