Mickey Gall displayed improved striking with an early knockdown leading to a first-round submission over Jordan Williams at UFC Vegas 32.
The returning Mickey Gall was welcomed back to the Octagon by Contender Series alum Jordan Williams on on the prelims of UFC Vegas 32. The fight was swapped off the main card close to the event in favor of Adrian Yanez vs. Randy Costa.
Gall, sidelined the better part of a year due to a back injury, returned to the cage against Williams, who was dropping to the welterweight division for the first time in his career. A big gamble, given that weight cutting is especially arduous for the fighter, who suffers from Type 1 diabetes.
Williams opened the fight with a heavy combination and Gall closed the distance quickly to clinch up. He unloaded a huge uppercut that knocked Williams down. Gall attempted a guillotine, but Williams rolled out of it. After standing up, an eye-poke from Williams paused the action. Gall wasted no time after the fight resumed, rocking Williams with a right hand. Williams shot for a takedown into a guillotine attempt and was able to spin out of it. Gall then took his back and locked in a rear-naked choke, ending the fight in the first round.

Gall trained with longtime veteran Matt Brown for this training camp and his striking already appears to be improving leaps and bounds. It was his fifth submission victory in the UFC, four of which have come in the first round.
