Women’s strawweight action is lined up for the UFC’s October 9 event.
On Saturday, Cageside Press confirmed with a source close to the booking that Sam Huges will face Lupita Godinez on the Fight Night card. News of the match-up was first reported by ESPN Deportes. The bout has yet to be officially announced by the promotion.
Sam Hughes (5-3) entered the UFC on short notice back in December, stepping in against “The Tiny Tornado” Tecia Torres. The fight ended via a doctor’s stoppage following the opening round, after a cut opened up on Hughes.
A veteran of Legacy Fighting Alliance, Hughes returned to the octagon in May, losing a unanimous decision against Thailand’s Loma Lookboonmee. That will put the 28-year old Catalyst MMA athlete in must-win territory this fall.
Lupita Godinez (5-1) lost her own octagon debut in April, after stepping up on short notice against ex-title challenger Jessica Penne. The loss ended the perfect record of “Loopy,” who had found success in both BTC and LFA, winning championships with both organizations.
No location, venue, or broadcast plan has been announced for the October 9 event. The only other bout reported to date features middleweight action, as Laureano Staropoli takes on Jamie Pickett.
