Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi is scheduled to defend his title against John Salter on August 13 at Bellator 264.
Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi will be looking to record the second defense of his title when he takes on John Salter on August 13. MMA Junkie was first to report the news. The fight is expected to headline Bellator 264 and take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
Mousasi first won the Bellator title in 2018 after impressive runs in the UFC, Strikeforce, and DREAM. “The Dream Catcher” defended the title once before losing it to Jiu-Jitsu ace Rafael Lovato Jr. in 2018. Mousasi bounced back with a victory over Lyoto Machida and last year challenged then welterweight champion Douglas Lima for the vacant title. Mousasi routed Lima to reclaim the middleweight title, adding to his list of victories that includes Rory MacDonald, Chris Weidman, Thiago Santos, and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
John Salter will be looking to score an upset as he records the most high profile victory of his MMA run. A professional since 2009, Salter’s career saw him have short stints in the UFC and Strikeforce before joining Bellator in 2015. He has gone 10-1 in the promotion and rides a three fight win-streak going into the fight with Mousasi. His lone Bellator loss was a 2018 bout with former champion Lovato Jr.
No bouts for the undercard have been announced.
