Makwan Amirkhani gets to stay on UFC Vegas 28 next week with a new opponent.
MMA Junkie was first to report the news that Kamuela Kirk will step in on a little over a week’s notice to fight Amirkhani on June 5 at UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai. Amirkhani was originally booked to fight Nate Landwehr.
Amirkhani (16-4) has alternated losses in his last three UFC fights and will be looking to get back into the win column. “Mr. Finland” went 1-1 in 2020 and fought both times on ‘Fight Island.’ He defeated Danny Henry by submission via anaconda at UFC 251. Three months later, he would lose via unanimous decision to Edson Barboza in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen.
Kirk (11-4) stayed ready after his main event win over Daniel Swain two weeks ago at LFA 107. He would defeat Swain when his opponent would retire on the stool. Before that, “The Jawaiian” knocked out Guilherme Santos at LFA 97 in January. Kirk fought on season three of Dana White’s Contender Series, losing to Billy Quarantillo.
