Clay Guida asked for a prospect in his last post-fight interview, and he got it.
Danish news website Via Ritzau first reported the news that UFC veteran Guida will fight Mark O. Madsen on August 21 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Guida would confirm the news on social media.
Guida (36-20) snapped his two-fight losing skid when he defeated Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Volkov in February. During his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier following his win over Johnson, Guida asked UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby for a prospect.
“Maybe we can get someone that doesn’t have 20 fights, maybe not a veteran for once; it’s been a long time since you guys gave me a – I wouldn’t say no-namer, but uh, you know, maybe an up-comer if you will. We’re always ready,” Guida said.
Ask, and you shall receive.
Olympic wrestler Madsen (10-0) has been out of action since his fight at UFC 248 last year. He defeated Austin Hubbard via a unanimous decision. Before his win over Hubbard, he defeated Danilo Belluardo in his UFC debut, which took place in his home country of Denmark. While he is not a spring chicken, he only has two UFC fights, which Guida wanted.
No location, venue, or broadcast details have yet to be announced by the promotion for UFC’s August 21 event. No main event has been announced yet.
