ONE Championship’s highly publicized all-female fight card, Empower, has been postponed.
Originally scheduled for May 28, the event, which was to feature the launch of the promotion’s women’s atomweight grand prix, has been delayed due to COVID-19. The coronavirus pandemic continues to be an issue globally, with many nations in the midst of a third wave. Empower was set to go down in Singapore, where all of ONE’s recent cards have been held.
Promotion officials announced news of the postponement in a press release early Friday. “As always, the health and safety of our athletes, staff, and fans is our top priority. A new date for the event and other details will be announced at a later date,” the release said in part.
May 28 will still have MMA action in store for it, however. Replacing Empower, which was to air live, will be Full Blast — a previously taped event.
Full Blast will be headlined by a ONE Super Series Muay Thai bout featuring Saemapetch Fairtex and Kulabdam “Left Meteorite” Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai. In addition to that main event, the following bouts were announced for the May 28 broadcast:
Kantharaj Agasa vs. Xie Wei
Santino Verbeek vs. Miles Simson – Kickboxing
Ahmed Faress vs. Edward Kelly
Anthony Do vs. Liang Hui
