The highly anticipated bantamweight bout between former champion TJ Dillashaw and Cory Sandhagen has been rescheduled for July 24. MMA Junkie was first to report the news. The two were previously set to compete on May 8 but an injury to Dillashaw led to the fight being postponed just days out from the bout.
Former champion TJ Dillashaw (16-4) will be fighting for the first time since 2019 where he fell short in his bid to become a two-division champion as he moved down in weight to challenge Henry Cejudo for the flyweight title. Dillashaw failed his USADA drug tests and admitted to using the steroid EPO and was subsequently suspended for two years and stripped of his bantamweight championship. Prior to the bout, Dillashaw was on a four fight win-streak that included winning the title for the second time in 2017.
Corey Sandhagen (14-2) is looking to secure a title shot after already scoring back-to-back finishes against Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar. “The Sandman” had previously been on a seven fight win-streak prior to coming up short in a title eliminator against current champion Aljamain Sterling last June. Sandhagen last fought in February.
No venue for the event has been announced although it is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Dillashaw and Sandhagen are expected to be the headliner.
