In just his second fight with the UFC, multi-time Bellator MMA lightweight champion Michael Chandler will get his chance to earn MMA’s most prestigious championship. At UFC 262, Chandler will throw down with Charles Oliveira, with the vacant lightweight title on the line.
Although there was an argument for Dustin Poirier to be in his position, “The Diamond” opted instead for a rubber match money fight with Conor McGregor — leaving Chandler, coming off a knockout of Dan Hooker, and Oliveira, riding an eight-fight win streak, as the two lightweights most deserving of competing for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s vacant title.
It’s likely that the shadow of “The Eagle” will loom over the division for a while, but neither Chandler nor Oliveira had the chance to compete against Khabib — giving them an added boost of legitimacy that names like McGregor and Poirier might lack.
The full card for UFC 262 weighs in Friday morning — check below for results.
All fighters made weight save one on Friday — Rogerio Bontorin came in one pound over the bantamweight limit for his fight with Matt Schnell. Several fighters required a barrier to weigh in, and Beneil Dariush took a second attempt, but successfully hit the mark for the co-main event.
