Marina Rodriguez won a decision over Michaelle Waterson in the main event of UFC Vegas 26. In the co-main event, Alex Morono finished Donald Cerrone in the first round. Today we will be looking into what is next for the losers of UFC Vegas 26.
Michelle Waterson
Waterson is now 1-3 in her last four fights, with her only win being a split decision win over Angela Hill in September 2020. She came into the fight this past weekend ranked number nine in the women’s strawweight division. She will likely be ranked outside of the top ten when the rankings are updated. For Waterson’s next fight she should look to take on Tecia Torres. Torres is currently ranked number ten in the strawweight division and holds a win over Waterson back in 2017. Since her win over Waterson, Torres is 2-4 in the UFC with losses to Jessica Andrade, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Weili Zhang, and Marina Rodriguez. Both women have lost to the top women in their division and are looking to climb their way back into the top ten.
Waterson’s next fight: Tecia Torres
Donald Cerrone
Cerrone is 0-5-1 in his last six fights. His last win came via a decision over Al Iaquinta in 2019. He has since been finished by Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor, and Alex Morono. Cerrone also lost a decision to Anthony Pettis and fought to a draw with Niko Price in that timeframe. A lot of fans believe that Cerrone will be cut following this loss. Others feel like he might even retire. If he does choose to return his next fight should be against Renato Moicano.
Moicano is 1-1 since moving to the lightweight division. Although he is 1-3 in his last four with his only win being a submission over Damir Hadzovic. This fight would be perfect for Cerrone because it wouldn’t be like fighting a newcomer or a veteran. Instead, Moicano is an already established fighter that is still very young. Moicano went 5-1 in the UFC’s featherweight division before his loss to Jose Aldo in 2019.
Cerrone’s next fight: Renato Moicano
Geoff Neal & Maurice Greene
Geoff Neal told everyone after his decision loss to Neil Magny this past Saturday, that he will likely be looking to take some serious time off to recover from previous injuries. Maurice Greene lost a decision to Marcos Rogerio de Lima. That loss makes Greene 1-4 in his last five. It would not be surprising to see Greene be cut after looking at his production in the past two years.
Carlos Diego Ferreira
Carlos Diego Ferreira lost via TKO in the second round to Gregor Gillespie at UFC Vegas 26. Ferreira won the first round and it looked like Gillespie was very tired going into the second round. Gillespie then dominated the second round and finished Ferreira in incredible fashion. Ferreira should be looking to try and save his spot in the top 15 in his next fight. The perfect opponent would be Drew Dober. Dober is 3-1 in his last four fights with his only loss being a submission loss to Islam Makhachev in his last fight. Both men are finishing machines and would defiantly put on a show for the fans at home.
Ferreira’s next fight: Drew Dober
