Neil Magny showed off his cardio at UFC Vegas 26, defeating Geoff Neal by unanimous decision after a tough first round.
In a battle of Neal vs. Neil at UFC Vegas 26, Neil Magny and Geoff Neal faced off at UFC Vegas 26, with both men looking to get back in the win column.
Geoff Neal put the pressure on early with a few left hands out of the gate, going right into the clinch. They stayed pinned against the cage temporarily, then Neal pushed away and unleashed a combination while Magny fired several kicks to the body. Neal went back to the clinch again, controlling the pace of the round. Any time there was separation, Neal fired a combination that ended with a big left hand. Magny then initiated a clinch and got a takedown, taking the back of Neal. Neal stood up quickly while maintaining wrist control. There was another clinch initiated by Neal at the end of the round.
Neal popped a double jab to start the second round and Magny fired back with a long jab of his own. A combination connected for Neal as he hadn’t clinched yet, like he had so often in the first round. Neal then ducked under for a successful takedown, getting the opportunity he wanted. Magny popped back up and shot for a takedown of his own, but Neal defended and landed a big left hand. Magny was able to separate before Magny converted a takedown. The pace of Magny picked up towards the end of the second round, pumping out punches with great frequency as Neal slowed down. Right before the end of the round, Neal was able to land a pair of big left hands.
Magny pace continued in the third round, but Neal was biding his time and waiting for openings to land his heavy left hands. Between those attacks, though, it was all Magny. He was feeding Neal a steady diet of jabs, who no longer could get consistent offense going. Neal fired two left straights that found the mark, but was then in the clinch with Magny, who separated and pumped more jabs. Magny landed a takedown and Neal popped back up and landed a big left down the stretch, then ate more straight shots from Magny in response.
