The exhibition boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul has been rescheduled for June 6 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The exhibition between the best boxer of a generation and one of the biggest social media stars in the world has been rescheduled, as the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Logan Paul will now take place on June 6 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The announcement comes on the heels of Paul’s brother Jake Paul successfully defeating Ben Askren at a Triller event on April 17, in the biggest celebrity boxing bout to date. The fight between Mayweather and Paul had previously been set for February 20, but the bout was postponed. Reports came out that it was due to a lack of interest, although Paul refuted those claims and stated that it was because Mayweather sought more time to prepare. Notably, the event will now also be co-promoted by Mayweather’s longtime broadcast partner Showtime whereas the original event was only set to be promoted through the social media platform Fanmio.
Floyd Mayweather Jr was unanimously voted as the best boxer of the past decade in 2020 and is highly regarded as one of the most talented pugilists to ever compete in the sport. Outside of his abilities inside the ring, his ability to sell a fight and being his own promoter led to him being the highest paid athlete in the world for multiple years. Undefeated at 50-0, Mayweather set pay-per-view records against the likes of Oscar de la Hoya, Canelo Alvarez, Conor McGregor, and Manny Pacquiao. His fight with Pacquiao in particular holds the record for the most successful combat sports pay-per-view of all time. Mayweather last fought in 2017 where he came out of retirement to defeat Conor McGregor by TKO in round 10.
Logan Paul is best known for being one of the most successful social media stars across all platforms with over 22 million followers on YouTube and over 11 million followers on TikTok. Regarded as one of the highest grossing celebrities through social media exclusively, Paul helped reignite the trend of internet celebrities stepping into the ring with his two fights against British social media star KSI. Headlining events at both the Wembley Arena and Staples Center, the fights have been seen as the catalyst for the latest trend in celebrity boxing as both were successful in terms of attention garnered and revenue. Paul has not competed in boxing since fighting KSI in their rematch in 2019.
In recent weeks, the UFC held a sold out event in Jacksonville, Florida while boxing star Canelo Alvarez headlined an event at the same venue that Mayweather and Paul will use. Alvarez’s event was held with a limited capacity crowd. It is unclear if the event on June 06 will be feature full or limited capacity crowd. Further details such as the exact weight class, number of rounds, and undercard were not released.
