Eddie Alvarez has booked a quick turnaround following his DQ loss to Iuri Lapicus earlier this month at ONE on TNT I.
On Friday, ONE Championship officials confirmed to Cageside Press that Alvarez (30-8, 1NC), the former Bellator MMA and UFC lightweight champion, would face the winner of Marat Gafurov vs. Rae Yoon Ok. The new will take place at ONE on TNT IV.
While Gafurov vs. Ok airs on Wednesday, April 23 at ONE on TNT III, the event has already taken place, with the show set to be broadcast via tape delay.
MMA Fighting was first to report the news of Alvarez’s next assignment.
“The Underground King” got off to a fast start earlier this month against Lapicus. However, after taking the former title challenger down and trapping his legs, a number of illegal blows landed to the back of the head. That resulted in a red card and a DQ loss for Eddie Alvarez, who now sits at 1-2 in the promotion.
A clearly upset Alvarez petitioned the promotion to overturn the result following the fight, to no avail. Instead, he’ll have a chance to get the taste of defeat out of his mouth with a quick turnaround against either Marat Gafurov or Rae Yoon Ok.
ONE on TNT IV airs April 28, 2021 live on TNT. The main event sees Aung La N Sang put his light heavyweight title on the line against Vitaly Bigdash. The pair have met twice before, with their career series tied one fight apiece.
