Jarjis Danho returned from his multi-year layoff in a big way at UFC Vegas 23, knocking out powerful heavyweight Yorgan De Castro in the very first round.
With two straight losses entering UFC Vegas 23, heavyweight Yorgan De Castro was in must-win territory on Saturday. Opponent Jarjis Danho might have been as well, though his standing with the promotion was a puzzle. After joining the UFC in 2016, the “Man Mountain” quickly rattled off a loss and a draw… and was never heard from again. Fights in 2017, 2019, and 2020 fizzled, the latter due to the coronavirus. Which meant that his bout against De Castro was the 37-year-old’s first in roughly four and a half years.
If you’re a believer in ring rust, Danho was going to be quite the study.
Danho opened the fight with two low kicks. One minute into the fight and De Castro has whiffed on two overhand rights. Danho threw another low kick and grabbed De Castro in the clinch. De Castro escaped and landed a heavy punch which led to a takedown by Danho. De Castro got up quickly. Danho landed a short right hand on De Castro’s temple and put him to sleep. What a knockout!

After four and half years away from MMA, Danho is back in the win column in a big way. That is three losses in a row for De Castro, and “The Mad Titan” might be on his way back to the regional scene.
