A pair of popular top ten featherweights will fight in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card in June.
Ask, and you shall receive. Brett Okamoto of ESPN was the first to report the news that Dan Ige will get his wish and fight Chan Sung Jung, better known as “The Korean Zombie,” in the main event of the UFC’s June 19 Fight Night. According to the same report, contracts have not been signed, but the fighters have agreed to the booking. Helping confirm the report, both fighters announced on social media that they had a fight booked.
Zombie (16-6) had his two-fight win streak snapped in 2020. He would lose a number one contender fight to Brian Ortega via unanimous decision in his seventh straight main event. Before that loss, he was the second man to stop Frankie Edgar, doing so in Jung’s home country of Korea.
Ige (15-3) is coming off one of the best knockouts of 2021 so far. He knocked out Gavin Tucker in the first round last month at UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Muhammad. “Dynamite” also had his winning streak snapped in 2020. He lost a unanimous decision to Calvin Kattar on ‘Fight Island’ in his first main event. The Hawaiian was riding a six-fight win streak before that loss.
The UFC’s June 19 event does not have an official location, venue, or broadcast plans announced.
The UFC’s June 19 fight card now looks like this:
