The PFL’s second card of 2021 will feature Rory MacDonald in the main event — making a little bit of history in the process.
When MacDonald (21-6-1) makes his promotional debut at PFL 2 on April 29, 2021, he will become the first man to have headlined cards for the UFC, Bellator MMA, and the Professional Fighters League. MacDonald will face David Michaud (18-6), the 2019 welterweight runner up, in the fight.
PFL officials announced the news in a press release Tuesday.
Canada’s “Red King” has not fought since losing the Bellator welterweight title in 2019, in the finale of Bellator’s welterweight grand prix. Rather astoundingly, despite winning and defending the Bellator 170lb title over his past five fights, MacDonald is just 2-2-1 in that span. After claiming the belt against Douglas Lima in 2018, MacDonald would come up short in a middleweight title bid opposite Gegard Mousasi. He then fought to a draw with Jon Fitch, defeated Neiman Gracie in his next title defense, and lost the belt back to Lima in their rematch.
Also in action in week two of this year’s PFL regular season, Hawaii’s Ray Cooper III, the 2019 welterweight champ, faces French newcomer Jason Ponet in the co-main event. A pair of UFC veterans also collide when Jordan Johnson takes on Tom Lawlor at light heavyweight. And kicking off the main card, 2019 light heavyweight champion Emiliano Sordi faces UFC veteran Chris Camozzi.
