One of the best fights of 2020, and one of the best UFC flyweight fights of all time, will be run back on June 12.
Brazilian 125lb champ Deiveson Figueiredo and Mexico’s Brandon Moreno will run back their UFC 256 title fight on June 12, 2021. The rematch will take place at a previously unannounced UFC event on that date, expected to be UFC 263. No location, venue, or broadcast plans have been announced for the card.
ESPN, the promotion’s official broadcaster, was first to report the news.
Figueiredo (20-1-1) and Moreno (18-5-2) battled to a draw in the main event of UFC 256, the promotion’s final PPV event of 2020, in December. To date, the fight has been the largest test for Figueiredo since he embarked on his title run.
The “God of War” defeated Joseph Benavidez twice in 2020, the second time necessitated by a miss at the scales at UFC Norfolk a year ago. After capturing the title in a rematch with Benavidez, Figueiredo defended the belt against Alex Perez in November, before both he and Moreno made a very short turnaround for their December date.
Prior to the draw, Figueiredo had won his last five fights. Moreno had won three straight.
No other fights have been announced for the UFC’s June 12, 2021 event.
