UFC 258 was the second PPV event of 2021 for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and saw one of its most storied belts on the line. In the main event, welterweight champion Kamaru Usman returned, looking to defend his title against Brazilian challenger Gilbert Burns.
The pair were former teammates, at least until Usman left Sanford MMA to train with the likes of Trevor Wittman in Colorado. Still, the backstory of former friends and teammates colliding in the main event with a UFC title on the line was hard to ignore.
In the co-main event of UFC 258, Maycee Barber returned after over a year out of action, looking to bounce back from her first career loss. A disheartening defeat to Roxanne Modafferi, and an ACL injury as an unfortunate bonus, had taken precious time away from “The Future,” whose oft-stated goal is to beat Jon Jones’ record as youngest UFC champion.
On Saturday, Barber was paired up against Mexico’s Alexa Grasso, looking to make it two in a row since moving to the UFC women’s flyweight division.
