A rather interesting clash of grappling talents is off the UFC 258 card in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Per UFC officials, the flyweight bout between Canada’s Gillian Robertson and Invicta FC alum Miranda Maverick has been scratched after Robertson fell ill. While the nature of her illness was not disclosed, a statement by the promotion suggested it was a non-COVID related illness.
The fight was expected to open the preliminary portion of the event.
Maverick (8-2), an Invicta FC standout, had won her UFC debut back on Fight Island in November. Robertson (9-5), the UFC’s most active female flyweight, was looking to bounce back from a loss to Taila Santos in December. Prior to that setback, “The Savage” had won two straight.
The UFC 258 card now moves forward with ten fights. The card previously lost high-profile match-ups Jimmie Rivera vs. Pedro Munhoz, and Bobby Green vs. Jim Miller.
The following fights remain on the event:
Kamaru Usman (c) vs. Gilbert Burns – for the UFC welterweight championship
Maycee Barber vs. Alexa Grasso
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch
Ricky Simon vs. Brian Kelleher
Maki Pitolo vs. Julian Marquez
Rodolfo Vieira vs. Anthony Hernandez
Belal Muhammad vs. Dhiego Lima
Polyana Viana vs. Mallory Martin
Andre Ewell vs. Chris Gutiérrez
Gabriel Green vs. Philip Rowe
