A battle of Brazilian bantamweights has been added to the UFC’s February 27 card.
Sherdog was first to report that Raphael Assuncao and Raoni Barcelos will face off at the event. The fight will see a quickly rising Barcelos take on the struggling Assuncao, who is on the worst skid of his career.
Assuncao (27-8) will be looking to snap a three-fight losing streak on February 27. In his last three trips to the octagon, Assuncao has come up short against Marlon Moraes, Cory Sandhagen, and Cody Garbrandt. The Garbrandt fight, at UFC 250 in June, ended in a jaw-rattling knockout defeat for the Brazilian.
Raoni Barcelos (16-1) has been on the opposite trajectory since starting his UFC career in 2018. He’s the winner of five straight inside the octagon, with nine consecutive wins overall. Most recently, he earned a unanimous decision win against Khalid Taha at UFC Vegas 13.
Barcelos’ only pro loss came under the RFA banner back in 2014.
The UFC’s February 27 event does not yet have a location or venue announced. The following bouts are expected to feature on the Fight Night card:
Dominick Reyes vs. Jiri Prochazka
William Knight vs. Alonzo Menifield
Sabina Mazo vs. Alexis Davis
Raoni Barcelos vs. Raphael Assuncao
Alex Oliveira vs. Randy Brown
