Prediction
This is a perfect match-up for Bahamondes. Gomez is a dangerous fighter early round one with his aggression. With that said, Bahamondes is very good at sticking guys at his preferred range. Gomez doesn’t tend to find much success at distance and at a seven-inch height disadvantage I expect Bahamondes to piece him up. The path to victory for Gomez is to get the takedown and finish with ground strikes. The problem is, based on past performances, he has around four minutes to do so before he gasses. Bahamondes has lost twice by submission in the first round which is a concern. Still, Gomez isn’t a submission threat and I’m not entirely sold on his grappling in general. The pick is Bahamondes as he appears to be the better fighter.
Notably, Gomez was well over the welterweight limit at weigh-in, but the fight is a go.
