Said Nurmagomedov needed very little time to get back in the win column at UFC Fight Island 6, knocking out the debuting Mark Striegl in under a minute.
Said Nurmagomedov welcomed Mark Striegl to the Octagon at UFC Fight Island 6 to kick the event. Nurmagomedov came into the UFC with an 11-1 record, with the only loss coming against Magomed Bibulatov, then won his first two fights in the Octagon. That included an impressive spinning back kick stoppage over Ricard Ramos. He was looking to rebound from a decision loss to Raoni Barcelos.
Striegl is a talented fighter from the Philippines who carried an 18-2 record into his promotional debut. Of those 18 wins, 14 came by submission, including a rear-naked choke against Kai Kara-France.
Nurmagomedov started the fight with a quick leg kick-hook combo. Striegl went to a leg kick, then tried to jump in with a combination. On the way in, Nurmagomedov caught him with a counter left hook that rocked him. Striegl tried to slow things down with a single-leg takedown, but Nurmagomedov unleashed punches that forced Striegl to fall backward. Nurmagomedov followed him down and knocked him out with vicious ground-and-pound.

Considering the balance required to hurt an opponent while defending a takedown, the bantamweight told Daniel Cormier in the post-fight that he could put his leg on Cormier’s shoulder and still remain on his feet. The talented Dagestani is hoping to fight Sean O’Malley down the road.
