The UFC’s second-to-last stop on its current Fight Island tour was topped by the return of Brian Ortega, against the always formidable Korean Zombie.
UFC Fight Island 6 wasn’t the most stacked card, and it took a blow with the loss of Ciryl Gane vs. Ante Delija during fight week (that due to contract issues on the part of Delija). But there were a handful of interesting fights and top prospects in action. At 25, Canadian Gillian Robertson improved her flyweight division-leading wins record to six. The first decision of her UFC career, it was a dominant performance against Poliana Botelho. Robertson, in addition to having the most wins among women at 125lbs, also holds the record for most submissions and finishes.
Mateusz Gamrot, a former KSW double champion (featherweight and lightweight) made his debut at UFC Fight Island 6. With the recent success of another KSW alum, Jan Blachowicz, there was a lot of interest in Gamrot. However, it was another newcomer, Guram Kutateladze, that stole the show, earning a split decision. That said, after a split decision win, the Georgian opined that it was Gamrot who should have won.
Either way, it was an early front runner for Fight of the Night.
Of course all eyes would be on the main event, with the winner of Ortega vs. Zombie a front-runner for a title shot.
Following the main card, which kicked off at 7PM ET, tune in for the post-fight press conference for UFC Fight Island 6. The live stream can be viewed above.
