The UFC’s October 10 card has undergone a shakeup. With Sodiq Yusuff previously reported as being out of the event, Makwan Amirkhani has stepped up to compete against Brazil’s Edson Barboza.
Brazilian outlet Combate was first to report news of the opponent change. No reason has been given for Yusuff dropping out of the fight.
Barboza (20-9), long a staple of the lightweight division, dropped to 145lbs his last time out. He wound up losing a very close split decision to Dan Ige, in a fight many scored the other way. The loss, however, was a considerable setback, with Barboza having lost three straight, and five of his last six bouts.
Late replacement Amirkhani (16-4) will enter the contest off a July win over Danny Henry at UFC 251 on Fight Island. “Mr. Finland” has won three out of his last five bouts. That includes picking up a Performance of the Night bonus in that span.
