UFC 253 marked the return of the Ultimate Fighting Championship to “Fight Island” in a big way.
After a successful stint in Abu Dhabi in July, the UFC was no doubt hoping that lightning would strike twice, putting on another huge card to kick off a month-plus long stint. Two title fights topped the UFC 253 card, with Israel Adesanya serving as the selling point, as he put his middleweight title on the line against fellow undefeated fighter Paulo Costa.
19-0 vs. 13-0. Finesse vs. Power. New Zealand vs. Brazil. There were all sorts of narratives surrounding the main event at UFC 253. Just as there were with the co-feature, which saw Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz vying for the light heavyweight title. The title only recently vacated by Jon Jones.
Whoever had their hand raised at the end of Blachowicz vs. Reyes would be the first UFC light heavyweight champ not named Jones or Daniel Cormier in nearly a decade. Reyes had only recently lost a controversial decision against Jones earlier this year. Blachowicz, meanwhile, was the consensus number one contender.
Following the event, the key players, plus promotion President Dana White, were set to appear at the post-fight press conference. You can view the official live stream above.
