Invicta FC 42 saved the best for last. A five fight card, the night’s main event was the crown jewel of the show in more ways than one. For starters, the bout saw Alesha Zappitella winning atomweight gold. In style, with a Von Flue choke on opponent Ashley Cummins, who was in her second straight title fight.
That it came in the championship rounds, early in the fourth, was a nice little touch. The pair got off to a spirited start with Cummins holding her own, and fighting off takedowns, in the early going. Zappitella, meanwhile, began to come on strong as the fight progressed. At the end of the third, she was in full control. In the fourth, it didn’t take long to establish her dominance and seal the deal with the Von Flue. Which cemented Zappitella, still in reality a rising prospect, as the best 105lb’er in the promotion.
