Billy Quarantillo got his eighth win in a row at UFC Vegas 10, knocking out Kyle Nelson just seconds into the third round.
Kyle Nelson looked to put an end to the streak of Billy Quarantillo at UFC Vegas 10. For what it’s worth, both men have wins over Khama Worthy in their careers, who was in the co-main event. Nelson is a Canadian veteran who signed with the UFC after accumulating a 12-1 record. Losses to Carlos Diego Ferreira and Matt Sayles slowed him down, but he got back on the winning side last time out with a knockout against Polo Reyes.
Quarantillo came into the fight on an impressive seven-fight win streak with five stoppages. He made his way to the promotion through the Contender Series last year and has since won twice.
Nelson came out with a big combination and landed a head kick. Quarantillo fired back with a heavy combo then clinched Nelson against the cage after Nelson landed a big uppercut and several body strikes. Quarantillo landed a knee that led to another body strike and clinch for Nelson. Nelson wasn’t able to do much with it and they returned to the center of the cage. A body kick connected for Quarantillo then landed a few straight punches and a leg kick to cap it off. The first takedown of the fight came from a diving double-leg by Quarantillo. Nelson scrambled to his feet, then caught a knee below the belt. After a pause in action, Nelson came out and laded a big right, then an uppercut. Nelson landed a body shot then a spinning back kick to the body to close the round.
Nelson landed a few big shots to start the second round followed by jab. Quarantillo responded with some jabs, then ate a body kick. Quarantillo came up short on a combo then whiffed on a takedown attempt. A right straight connected for Nelson, then he was driven to the cage by Quarantillo and was able to stay off his back. Nelson landed another big blow, but Quarantillo got a brief takedown to answer. Nelson returned to the feet and they separated. A few missed punches from both fighters led to another clinch and Quarantillo landed a knee to the body followed by an elbow. Quarantillo started to ramp up the pace as Nelson faded a bit, but both men landed their fair share of big shots. Quarantillo kept backing him up and landed a heavy combination that forced Nelson to shoot for a desperation takedown. Quarantillo sprawled then ended the round with ground-and-pound.
Quarantillo cracked Nelson with an straight right immediately to start the third round and Nelson faceplanted. That was that and Quarantillo had his eighth win in a row.
