The “Beverly Hills Ninja” Jordan Wright made his UFC debut on Saturday night. Wright, who had appeared on the Contender Series last year (ending in a No Contest due to an Anthony Hernandez drug test failure), was undefeated in 10 fights to start the night. He was paired up with Ike Villanueva, who had stepped in at heavyweight against Chase Sherman in his last fight.
It was back to 205lbs at UFC Vegas 7, however.
Right away off the opening bell, Jordan Wright dropped Villanueva with a glancing wheel kick. Ike bounced right back up from the knockdown, and Wright threw a barrage of knees in the clinch, busting up Villanueva with a nasty cut. Wright held onto the clinch for a good long while. When they separated, the ref stepped in calling in a doctor to look at the cut on “Hurrican Ike.” Not liking what he saw, doctor stopped the fight, saying “we’re done” as he waved it off.
That’s a big win for Wright, who put on a heck of a showing in his promotional debut. An unfortunately way to lose for Villanueva, who drops to 0-2 in the promotion, but given the circumstances will hopefully get another look.
Official Result: Jordan Wright def. Ike Villanueva by TKO (Doctor Stoppage), Round 1, 1:31
