The rumour has finally become a reality, and it’s official. Mark Striegl has finally signed with the UFC and will have his highly anticipated debut on August 22 against fellow debuting fighter Timur Valiev.
UFC officials confirmed the news Thursday.
Mark Striegl (18-2) comes into the UFC with a four-fight win streak and will look to make his dream of capturing a victory inside the octagon come true. He knows the danger that his opponent possesses as Timur Valiev is a WSOF and PFL veteran. Striegl, the former URCC featherweight champion, has a very impressive resume himself, winning 14 of his 18 pro fights by submission. Striegl also competed for ONE Championship.
Timur Valiev (16-2) was supposed to make his UFC debut against Jamall Emmers at UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan, but sometimes fate works in mysterious ways. Forced out of that card, he now gets to showcase his skills against Mark Striegl. In a match-up that more than makes up for having to withdraw from his fight with Emmers.
UFC matchmakers may have given us a gem, as this bout has “Fight of the Night” potential. Stylistically there is a vibe when you consider the pairing, with their credentials and how they match up so well against one another.
UFC on ESPN 15 is set to be headlined by Frankie Edgar vs. Pedro Munhoz at bantamweight.
