Ariane Lipski picked up the first finish on the UFC Fight Island 2 main card, submitting Luana Carolina with a devastating kneebar.
A battle of Brazilian flyweights featured on the UFC Fight Island 2 main card on Saturday. That bout, actually on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, saw “The Violence Queen” Ariane Lipski in search of her second straight win, against Luana Carolina.
Lipski, a former KSW flyweight champion, had recently signed a new deal with the promotion. Carolina, meanwhile, was returning from injury — a spinal fracture that had her out over a year. Three months for recovery alone. The fight opened up with Lipski pressing the action and dropping Carolina with a body shot, likely knocking her off balance as Carolina was throwing a leg kick. Lipski fell right into Carolina’s full guard. Carolina singled out a leg from Lipski and tried to use it to take her back. However, Lipski brilliantly used it to go for the kneebar, forcing Carolina to tap out.
The kneebar was just the second seen in UFC history on the women’s side. The first came on May 30 of this year, at UFC Vegas 4, when Mackenzie Dern landed one on Hannah Cifers. Lipski’s big finish was also the second-fastest in UFC women’s flyweight history.
Official Result: Ariane Lipski def. Luana Carolina via R1 submission (kneebar, 1:28)
