KSW 53 saw a little bit of drama unfold at Friday’s weigh-in.
The event is the promotion’s first since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. In a grudge match atop the card, lightweights Norman Parke and Mateusz Gamrot were expected to throw down for the undisputed title. However, Parke, a former member of the UFC, came in heavy for the fight, missing championship weight by 3.3lbs.
Parke (28–6–1, 1NC) held interim lightweight gold in the Polish promotion, an honor he won at KSW 50 back in 2019. Gamrot (15-0, 1NC) won the KSW featherweight belt last year, adding it to his 155lbs title.
The pair have met twice before. Gamrot won the original meeting in 2017 at KSW 39. A rematch later that year at KSW 40 saw things get heated when Parke suffered an accidental eye poke. The bout resulted in a No Contest.
The pair’s third meeting will now move forward as a non-title affair. Full weigh-in results are below.
