After suffering a unanimous decision loss to Bryce Mitchell at UFC 249 back in May, Charles Rosa was making a short turnaround at UFC on ESPN 10 on Saturday. And moving up a weight class against fellow featherweight Kevin Aguilar.
For his part, Aguilar had lost two in a row, and was looking to avoid the dreaded third straight L.
Not much landed for either man in the opening minutes. Aguilar caught Rosa with a left hand coming forward. A nice overhand right connected for Aguilar, followed by a jab. Rosa jumped forward with a kick to the body to back Aguilar up. Another body kick from Rosa came as he pressed forward. Rosa shot in on a takedown but backed off after eating a few shots from Aguilar before the round ended.

Rosa opened up the second round with a few hook kick attempts that only hit air. Aguilar connected with a very nice counter lead hook. He then followed up with a clean combination off a failed Rosa kick. Aguilar came forward with a nice double jab that connected. Rosa fired back with a very nice straight left hand down the middle. Just before the round ended Rosa landed a couple of big hooks.
The final round began with both Charles Rosa and Kevin Aguilar swinging for the fences, but not connecting on anything. Rosa briefly ended up in Aguilar’s back clinch but rolled out quickly. Aguilar then began to rip the body with some excellent shots. Painful looking. Rosa fired off a left hand while backing away that connected. Aguilar shot in on a takedown but Rosa was quick to shrug him off. Rosa landed a huge right hand but Aguilar continued to fight back as the round ended.
Official Result: Charles Rosa def. Kevin Aguilar by split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29)
