Former title challenger Katlyn Chookagian will be returning to action against top flyweight contender Antonina Shevchenko on May 30.
Per MMAJunkie, the UFC has added a bout between top flyweight contenders Katlyn Chookagian and Antonina Shevchenko to their card on May 30. The match-up provides a huge boost as the card is a little over a week away with only six fights currently announced.
Chookagian (13-3) is looking to get back in the win-column after attempting to wrest the flyweight crown from pound-for-pound stalwart Valentina Shevchenko back in February. “Blonde Fighter” enters the bout with Shevchenko’s sister Antonina with an impressive 6-3 mark that includes victories over contenders such as Joanne Calderwood, Irene Aldana (at bantamweight), and former Invicta champion Jennifer Maia.
Shevchenko was previously scheduled to face flyweight contender Cynthia Calvillo on April 25 in Lincoln, Nebraska before the card was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shevchenko (8-1) entered the UFC in 2018 through Dana White’s Contender Series and has amassed a 3-1 record in the promotion since then. “La Pantera” is currently coming off a win over Lucie Pudilová and enters the bout with the added benefit of having helped her sister Valentina recently prepare for a bout with Chookagian.
