The UFC continues to juggle fights as best it can while attempting to restart operations during the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to a number of fights set for May 13, a couple of key bouts have made their way to the promotion’s May 16 card in Jacksonville, Florida. Those would be Eryk Anders taking on Krzysztof Jotko at middleweight, and Anthony Hernandez facing off with Kevin Holland, also expected to go down at 185lbs.
The Anders vs. Jotko pairing was originally scheduled for UFC Portland. Anders (13-4) is currently on a two-fight win streak, having gotten the better of Vinicius Moreira and Gerald Meerschaert. The former football player has been a go-to guy for the UFC, headlining a pair of cards early in his tenure, against Lyoto Machida and Thiago Santos. A former LFA middleweight champion, a win in Jacksonville would leave ‘Ya Boi’ in excellent shape in the 185lb weight class.
Jotko (21-4) has also won two straight, most recently earning a split decision over Marc-André Barriault at UFC 240 last July.
MMA Junkie first reported the pair’s inclusion at the May 16 event. The site also let slip the Henandez vs. Holland news.
Anthony Hernandez (7-1, 1NC) picked up his first win inside the octagon last time out, at UFC Shenzhen against Jun Yong Park. Holland (16-5), who appeared on the Contender Series in 2018 and has fought for both LFA and Bellator MMA, had a three-fight win streak snapped when he fell to Brendan Allen last October.
The UFC’s May 16 event in Jacksonville takes place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, and will be headlined by heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris.
