Japan’s RIZIN Fighting Federation hosted its first card of 2020 with RIZIN 21 in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka on Saturday night. The Japanese promotion was without some of its biggest stars, including Tenshin Nasukawa and Kyoji Horiguchi, but sitting atop the card was a star in the making: Mikuru Asakura.
Featherweight Asakura entered the night on a seven-fight win streak, including victories over Yusuke Yachi, UFC vet Hatsu Hioki, and Bellator’s John Teixeira. Opposite the Japanese fighter in the main event was Daniel Salas, a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 who was making his promotional debut.
Also on the card, UFC vet Masanori Kanehara had his first fight since 2018, as he faced off against Victory Henry. Henry, a California native with experience all over the globe, had won six straight, and was making his second trip to the RIZIN ring.
