James Gallagher vs. Cal Ellenor is once again set to headline a Bellator MMA card, this time in the promotion’s return to London, England.
If at first you don’t succeed, try try again. That seems to be the thought process behind Bellator once again booking James Gallagher against Cal Ellenor, this time at their newly announced return to London, England this May.
2020’s Bellator London card will hopefully deliver where two previous cards have not, at least when it comes to the bantamweight pairing. Gallagher vs. Ellenor was booked twice previously, first in 2019 at Bellator 227. However, at the time, Ellenor was facing what was deemed a career-threatening brain condition, and was not cleared to compete.
As it turns out, the condition in question was something Ellenor had actually been suffering for years, with no apparent change or worsening. Which led him to be cleared to compete against Gallagher this month in Dublin — only for Gallagher to be forced out due to a back injury.
Well, third time’s the charm. Bellator revealed its return to London on Thursday via social media, and Gallagher vs. Ellenor will serve as the main event. Also on the card, James Haskell, who was the name behind a big tease from Bellator in 2019.
Haskell, a star in Rugby, will be making his MMA debut at the event. No opponent has yet been announced in Haskell’s case.
Bellator: London (expected to feature as Bellator Europe 8) takes place Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the SSE Arena in London, England.
