‘Overkill’ is looking to make a little history in New Zealand.
This is starting to become a habit. Once again, Angela Hill is stepping into a fight on short notice. This time, the bout will be at UFC Auckland, against Loma Lookboonmee. Hill confirmed the news Wednesday, after her manager let it slip on social media.
Lookboonmee was originally scheduled to face Hannah Goldy. However, Goldy announced Tuesday that a shoulder injury had forced her off the card.
That’s the second straight fight Hill (11-7) has taken on short notice, and one of several in her UFC career. Last time out, it was a win over Hannah Cifers at UFC Raleigh, a fight ‘Overkill’ took on roughly two weeks notice. That gave her a two-fight winning streak, the first of her UFC tenure.
Should Hill make it to the Auckland match-up without incident, she’ll also tie the record for most UFC bouts in a 12-month period, which is currently shared by Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and ‘Smilin” Sam Alvey.
Lookboonmee (4-1) won her octagon debut against Aleksandra Albu at UFC Singapore last October, making history as the first Thai fighter to compete in, and win, in the UFC. Prior to that fight, she picked up a win inside the Invicta FC cage. The bout was also the 115lb debut for the former atomweight.
