With Aaron Pico coming off two crushing defeats, Daniel Carey actually feels bad to see the prospect paired up with him at Bellator 238.
Los Angeles, CA — Featherweight Daniel Carey is the man tasked with welcoming a motivated Aaron Pico back to the cage, after the prospect suffered a pair of knockout losses that have slowed his momentum. With Pico’s high profile, and Carey generally flying under the radar, there have been a number of pundits dismissive of his chances in their Bellator 238 match-up.
Speaking to Cageside Press at the Bellator 238 media day, Carey told us that “I don’t give two sh*ts” when it comes to people calling him a softball for the returning Pico. “They said the same thing about Gaston [Bolanos]. We’ve seen what happened to him. It’s going to be similar with Aaron.”
Of course, Carey is referencing his upset win over Bolanos at Bellator 226, where he put Bolanos away with a first-round guillotine choke.
There’s been plenty of talk about what has happened with Pico, one of the most highly touted prospects to enter MMA in years. Carey sees it as fairly simple. “I think he just came across two hard fights, and then for some reason they threw him against me,” he said. “Which, I feel really bad for him, because that’s three hard ones, it’s going to be three hard losses, I’m not sure he’s going to bounce back.”
Carey, who’s predicting a third-round TKO against Pico, also gave his pick in the evening’s main event. That features women’s featherweight champ Julia Budd, taking on the debuting Cris Cyborg, former UFC, Invicta FC, and Strikeforce champion.
“I kind of think Julia’s going to take it, I really do,” said Carey. “I don’t know how, but I know she terrifies me. Cyborg seems really nice and sweet, but Julia scares the sh*t out of me. So I’m going to go with Julia.” Keep in mind, Carey is a fighter who himself is nicknamed ‘Scary,’ so he knows a thing or two about the subject.
