The return of Conor McGregor went down Saturday night, atop UFC 246 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The story lines entering UFC 246 were plentiful. Did Conor McGregor still have the ability to dazzle fans and connect with his left hand, the way he always had in years gone by? Would Cowboy Cerrone stay true to his word and stand with McGregor, rather than take the obvious path to victory by taking McGregor to the ground?
Would 2020 be the year of McGregor, or would Cowboy underscore exactly why he has the most wins in the company?
The rest of the UFC 246 card threatened to be overshadowed by McGregor’s return. Holly Holm vs. Raquel Pennington 2 flew almost entirely under the radar in the build up to the event. That, despite Holm being a former bantamweight champion, and Pennington having challenged Amanda Nunes for gold.
Another former champ, Anthony Pettis, was also returning to lightweight Saturday night. He’d be welcomed back to the division by dangerous Brazilian Carlos Diego Ferreira, in the biggest fight of his career.
