Tecia Torres will enter UFC Columbus looking to pull out of a tailspin, with a win over Mizuki Inoue crucial.
A strawweight battle between former Invicta FC contender Mizuki Inoue and longtime UFC 115lb’er Tecia Torres has been announced for UFC Columbus. The promotion’s upcoming return to Ohio goes down at the end of March. UFC officials announced the pairing via social media.
Torries (10-5), a.k.a. the ‘Tiny Tornado,’ was at one point a contender in the 115lb division. However, she has fallen on hard times of late, losing four straight bouts inside the octagon. That skid comes after starting her UFC career 6-1, with the only loss coming to a future champion in Rose Namajunas.
It’s worth noting, however, that the losses Torres has suffered on her current losing streak have included a trio of past and present champions: Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Jessica Andrade, and Weili Zhang. Her fourth and most recent defeat came at the hands of Marina Rodriguez, who is slowly emerging as a contender in the division.
Japan’s Inoue (14-5) is on the opposite trajectory. After losing a title bid against Virna Jandiroba in Invicta, Mizuki has won two straight, including her octagon debut against Yanan Wu in Shenzhen, China earlier this year.
UFC Columbis takes place March 28, 2020 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The card is expected to air on ESPN.
