Roxanne Modafferi vs. Maycee Barber is heading to UFC 246 on January 18, 2020 with verbal agreements secured for the fight.
A veteran versus prospect pairing is in the works for UFC 246 this January. First reported by MMA Junkie, Roxanne Modafferi, MMA’s well-traveled ‘Happy Warrior,’ will be paired up against Maycee Barber on the PPV card.
Barber, nicknamed ‘The Future,’ may very well be that for the flyweight division. However, she now has a wily veteran poised to test her skills.
Modafferi (23–16) began her career all the way back in 2003, fighting for Smackgirl in Japan. A pioneer in women’s MMA, she’d go on to win championships and tournaments around the globe. Modafferi would also challenge for titles in Strikeforce and Invicta FC, appear on The Ultimate Fighter twice, and vie for the inaugural flyweight title in the UFC against Nicco Montano.
Barber (8-0) is a former LFA standout who previously fought at strawweight. Most recently, she took out another hot young prospect, Gillian Robertson, at UFC Boston. Barber also holds wins over JJ Aldrich and Hannah Cifers under the UFC banner.
UFC 246, potentially the return date for Conor McGregor, has not been officially announced. However, the card is expected to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
