‘Mr. Wonderful’ Phil Davis will look to make it two in a row against Karl Albrektsson in the co-main event of UFC 231.
Phil Davis will return to the Bellator cage later this month. Per a report by MMA Junkie, Davis, a former light heavyweight champ in the promtoion, will face promotional newcomer Karl Albrektsson in the co-main event of Bellator 231. The event is the first of back-to-back shows in Connecticut at the end of October.
Davis (20–5, 1NC), a.k.a. ‘Mr. Wonderful,’ has won three of his four fights since dropping the belt to Ryan Bader in 2017. He’ll enter Bellator 231 off a win over Liam McGeary in April. McGeary, also a former champ at light heavyweight, could not continue after a jaw injury.
Karl Albrektsson (9-2) will, as noted, be making his promotional debut at the event. The Swede is a solid signing for Bellator, having competed several times under the RIZIN FF banner. He’ll enter the bout on a three fight win streak, the latest coming over Christiano Frohlich at RIZIN 15 in April.
Bellator 231 takes place Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. A rematch between heavyweights Frank Mir and Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson from back in their UFC days headlines the card. The following night, Bellator 232 will see Rory MacDonald defend his welterweight title against Douglas Lima in the finale of the welterweight grand prix.
