In a battle of promising lightweights, Marc Diakiese dominated Lando Vannata at UFC Copenhagen, securing his second win in a row.
UFC Copenhagen had a chance to get a little “groovy” on Saturday, as Lando Vannata returned to action against Marc Diakiese. Vannata finally secured his second UFC win earlier this year, and was looking to make it two in a row against fellow lightweight Diakiese. For his part, Diakiese was also looking to make it two straight, after snapping a three-fight skid with a win over Joe Duffy at UFC London in March.
Diakiese opened up with some ruthless leg kicks, chopping at Lando’s wide stance. He landed many of these kicks and even dropped Lando at one point. However, Vannata recovered and worked his way back to his feet, where he changed his stance and actually kept his hands up. Diakiese then landed one of his patented kicks, this time to the groin, which momentarily halted the action. Lando then began putting on the pressure, until Diakeise made him back off with a big left that sent Lando’s mouthpiece sailing. The action soon came to a close with the end of round one.
The furious action from round one continued into round two, as Diakiese and Lando traded big shots to open the round. It was around this time that Lando’s face began getting bloodied up, as Diakiese landed multiple big shots, including a few head kicks. Soon Lando attempted to take the fight to the ground, however, his takedown was stuffed. Lando landed a head kick, and Diakiese looked for a takedown of his own. Lando shrugged him off and attempted a spinning kick. However he missed, and Diakiese landed a strong left hand to close out round two.
Lando had a deep hole to dig himself out of to begin round three, and started off with a solid combination. He began to pick up some momentum, landing a couple of good shots. Diakiese then responded by landing a very key takedown, landing in full-guard. Lando made no attempt to get up, as he instead opted for elbows from the bottom while Diakiese landed some shots from the top. Lando finally decided to get up, but gave his back up in the process. He then got slammed down repeatedly, as Lando could muster nothing up in the final seconds.
Result: Marc Diakiese def. Lando Vannata via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)
