Before the action goes down Saturday don’t miss the main card players facing off ahead of Bellator 228 in Los Angeles.
Bellator 228 goes down Saturday night at The Forum in Los Angeles (technically Inglewood), and when it does, the other half of the featherweight grand prix gets their chance to shine. After half the field debuted at Bellator 226, the other eight competitors get in the cage this Saturday. AJ McKee will face Georgi Karakhanyan. Daniel Weichel gets Saul Rodgers. Darrion Caldwell faces Henry Corrales.
And Patricio Pitbull, the 145 and 155lb champ, will place featherweight gold on the line opposite Juan Archuleta. The belt will be up for grabs in every round of the grand prix, much as it was in the welterweight tournament the finishes up next month.
Beyond the featherweight action Bellator 228 also features a middleweight clash between Gegard Mousasi and Lyoto Machida. That fight, a rematch of their 2014 UFC bout, pits former Bellator middleweight champ Mousasi against former UFC light heavyweight champ Machida against one another with a title shot in either weight class on the line.
Preliminary card action, meanwhile, would feature Antonio McKee, father of main card player AJ McKee — marking the first time a father and son had competed at the same event for a major North American MMA promotion.
