Bumped from UFC Singapore, Greg Hardy will now make his return at UFC on ESPN 6 in Boston a week earlier.
Disgraced ex-NFL star turned fighter Greg Hardy has had a change in travel plans. Not to mention opponents. Hardy (5-1) had been set to face the returning Jarjis Danho at UFC Singapore next month. It was a fight announcement that didn’t exactly set the MMA world on fire, given that Danho (5-1-1) had been out of action since 2016, and was coming off a loss.
However, per a new report by ESPN, Hardy has now been moved to UFC on ESPN 6, a.k.a. UFC Boston. He also has a new opponent in the form of Ben Sosoli (7-2, 1NC), a former competitor on Dana White’s Contender Series.
At the very least, Sosoli is a fighter who has competed with frequency over the past couple of years, appearing on The Ultimate Fighter in addition to the Contender Series. He’s also dabbled in boxing. However, Sosoli’s appearance on DWCS did not go as planned as the fight ended in a No Contest due to an accidental eye poke. Opponent Dustin Joynson was unable to continue in the fight as a result, and it wound up waved off.
While there was some talk of Sosoli ending up on Dana White’s Lookin’ For a Fight, he seems to have found a fight against Hardy. The former defensive end, 31, lost his debut in the UFC after being disqualified for an illegal knee against Allen Crowder. Since then, he has earned TKO wins over Dmitry Smolyakov (since banished by USADA), and fellow Contender Series heavyweight Juan Adams.
UFC on ESPN 6 takes place Friday, October 18 at the TD Garden in Boston, MA.
