All fighters made weight for UFC 241 Friday, and the event is a go, including Cormier vs. Miocic 2 for the heavyweight championship.
The UFC returns to action Saturday in Anaheim, California, and when it does, the heavyweight championship will be on the line. Stipe Miocic finally gets his long-desired rematch against Daniel Cormier, the man who defeated him for the belt just over a year ago. When the pair collide at UFC 241, it could very well be Cormier’s swan song, although that is not written in stone just yet.
In the co-main event, Stockton native Nate Diaz is returning from a three-year hiatus. His self-imposed exile in the wake of a majority decision loss to Conor McGregor saw the lightweight manage to stay relevant without ever setting foot in the octagon. To retain that relevance, however, he’ll need a strong showing, if not a win, against a former champion in Anthony Pettis, who recently moved to welterweight and took out Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in his debut in the division.
In another key fight on the UFC 241 main card, middleweights Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa will finally collide, after their match-up had fallen through a coupe of times in the past year. This will be the first three round fight for Romero in years, so it will be interesting to see how the 42-year old Cuban looks against Brazil’s much younger Costa.
