With Demetrious Johnson, Martin Nguyen, and Eddie Alvarez in tow, ONE Championship returned to Manila, Philippines for Dawn of Heroes on Friday.
ONE Championship was back in action on Friday, with Dawn of Heroes going down in Manila, Philippines. With a stacked card including the likes of Martin Nguyen, Demetrious Johnson, Eddie Alvarez, and Yushin Okami, the promotion was bringing out the big guns.
In the main event, Martin Nguyen (13-3) successfully defended his ONE featherweight title against Japan’s Koyomi Matsushima. The second round TKO was Nguyen’s second straight finish, and the former double-champ could be primed to return later this year.
In Grand Prix action, Eddie Alvarez (30–7 (1)), back in the lightweight tournament, submitted Eduard Folayang (21–8) early, to punch his ticket to the grand prix final. Demetrious Johnson (29–3–1), meanwhile, captured a unanimous decision against Tatsumitsu Wada to make the final of the flyweight grand prix.
Things did not go as well for former UFC star Yushin Okami, who lost his second straight fight under the ONE Championship banner against James Nakashima. That win may put Nakashima in position for a title shot moving forward.
