After its main event was reported, UFC San Francisco got a great fight between up-and-comer Kron Gracie and veteran Cub Swanson.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported the addition to UFC San Francisco.
Kron Gracie is getting thrown to the wolves by the UFC. After soundly defeating Alex Caceres in his Octagon debut, he’ll be taking on longtime veteran Cub Swanson, who has been struggling recently.
The son of the legendary grappler Rickson Gracie, Kron is an ADCC grappling gold medalist amongst many other achievements in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. After winning the prestigious ADCC tournament in 2013, Gracie transitioned to MMA. He’s torn through the competition with five submissions in as many fights. His middle three fights took place in RIZIN, submitting veterans Hideo Tokoro and Tatsuya Kawajiri. “Ice Cream Kron” only needed two minutes in his Octagon debut in February, earning a Performance of the Night bonus.
Cub Swanson will be across the Octagon from Kron. Swanson was one of the bigger names in the WEC, going 6-3 in the promotion with a pair of Fight of the Night victories. “Killer Cub” is 10-7 in the UFC, but had separate runs of six-straight and four-straight wins. However, he’s never been able to reach number-one contender status. With seven performance bonuses and one Fight of the Year winner against Doo Ho Choi, Cub will always be a fan-favorite despite currently riding a four-fight losing streak.
UFC San Francisco has yet to be officially announced, but it is expected to take place in California’s brand new Chase Center, the future home of the Golden State Warriors. The main event is expected to be a strawweight tilt between former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and rising contender Michelle Waterson.
