UFC 242 gets yet another great fight as Paul Felder and Edson Barboza will square off once again in a rematch of their 2015 Fight of the Night.
MMA Junkie first reported the addition of the rematch to UFC 242.
UFC 242 is headlined by a lightweight title fight, and in that same division, Paul Felder and Edson Barboza will look to excite the Abu Dhabi crowd earlier that night. They provided fireworks last time they squared off on a Fight Night card in Chicago in 2015, winning the Fight of the Night bonus. It was Felder’s third fight in the Octagon, and Barboza’s 12th. The more experienced Barboza won by unanimous decision.
Paul Felder is 6-3 since their last meeting, and is coming off a huge win over James Vick in February. Felder has won his last four fights at 155 pounds, with two Performance of the Night bonuses and a win over Charles Oliveira. The Philadelphia native’s lone loss recently was a short-notice split decision defeat at welterweight against Mike Perry.
Edson Barboza is known as one of the more prolific strikers in the lightweight division. Nothing showcased that more than his last win against Dan Hooker, in which he systematically decimated his opponent with strikes before a third-round finish by a body shot. However, success has been hard to come by recently. That win over Hooker is Barboza’s lone victory in his last four fights, as he dropped fights to top competition in Justin Gaethje, Kevin Lee, and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
UFC 242 takes place on September 7 in Abu Dhabi’s du Arena. The main event is a lightweight title unification bout between undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim champion Dustin Poirier. Other great fights on the card include Islam Makhachev vs. Davi Ramos, Joanne Calderwood vs. Andrea ‘KGB’ Lee, and Mairbek Taisumov vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira.
