After losing a bout the day before weigh-ins, the UFC Minneapolis early weigh-ins took place and the results are below.
The UFC Minneapolis weigh-ins took place on Friday, June 28. A total of three bouts include short notice opponents. Those being Dalcha Lungiambula vs. Dequan Townsend, Journey Newson vs. Ricardo Ramos, and Vinicius Moreira vs. Eryk Anders. However, all three fighters who stepped up on short notice were able to make weight. An additional fight between Vince Murdock and Jordan Griffin was canceled yesterday after Murdock was declared medically unfit to fight.
The main event is a battle between heavy-handed heavyweights as Francis Ngannou battles Junior dos Santos. Ngannou has rebounded from the first two losses in his career with a pair of knockouts that took just over a minute combined. JDS has rattled off three straight wins since losing in a title fight in 2017, defeating Blagoy Ivanov and knocking out Tai Tuivasa and Derrick Lewis.
The co-main event is a number-one contender fight in the flyweight division, as Joseph Benavidez takes on Jussier Formiga. Formiga is on a four-fight win streak that includes two submissions, but has yet to receive a title shot in his UFC career. Benavidez has won eight of his last nine fights, including a victory over champion Henry Cejudo.
